FLASHBACK: Tourists were photographing the Big Peanut just hours after it was installed in November 2021

February 25, 2025

Kingaroy’s “Big Peanut” – an impressive sculpture located in Lions Park which was unveiled in 2021 – looks set to be immortalised in a limited edition Monopoly game.

At their January meeting, South Burnett councillors voted 5-2 to spend about $14,000 to support a proposal by licensed games manufacturer Winning Moves.

The Sydney-based company specialises in customised versions of popular games.

It is planning to create a “Big Things” Monopoly version which would feature 30 “big things” from around the country.

Councillors were divided over the benefit of the outlay, with some suggesting it would be good way to promote the region to potential tourists while others said the money could be better spent elsewhere.

In the end, the majority decided to support the project.

In return, Council will receive 300 board games and Top Trumps card games which they will be able to sell at Visitor Information Centres around the region to help to recoup the cost.
