South Burnett Regional Council has received a grant of more than $200,000 from the State Government to build a new toilet block at Butter Factory Park in Nanango.

Work on the project, which will replace the existing one-toilet block with a modern all-inclusive three-stall block, was due to start on Monday (February 17).

The $204,719 grant came from the Department of Sport, Racing and Olympics and Paralympic Games.

“Butter Factory Park is long-established and has been the centre of weekend and school holiday activities for children over the years,” a council spokesperson said.

“Council is excited to be able to install a new all-inclusive amenity building, which will bring longevity to the park for years to come.”

Small parts of the park will be closed temporarily during the construction work.

The existing toilet block in Butter Factory Park has been targeted by vandals several times in recent years.

The new amenities will complement the all-abilities playground at the park which was installed in 2020-21 after a campaign of community fundraising and support from the South Burnett Regional Council and Heritage Community Branch, Nanango.

Deputy Mayor Jane Erkens said it was hoped a mural could be painted in future on the doors of the new block to commemorate this community campaign.
