Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski travelled to Cherbourg recently to discuss law and order issues in the local region with Mayor Bruce Simpson and CEO Chatur Zala.

Also present at the meeting – held earlier this month – were Superintendent Douglas McDonald, from Darling Downs Police; Inspector Scott Stahlhut, from the South Burnett Patrol Group; and Cr Tom Langton, who is also a Police Liaison Officer (PLO) at Cherbourg.

Topics discussed included:

  • Potential upgrades to facilities at the Cherbourg Police Station to better serve the needs of the local police and the community,
  • Improved housing for police personnel, and
  • A commitment to building upon the strong relationship between the Cherbourg community and local police.

Two new PLOs were also officially welcomed: Edwin Simpson and Dorothea Douglas.

PLOs are employed by the Queensland Police Service to build positive links with specific communities in a bid to reduce and prevent crime and improve community knowledge of law and order issues.

They also advise serving police on cultural issues.
