The Murgon Business and Development Association distributed local Murgon awards in an Australia Day ceremony at the Dairy Museum on Sunday morning.

Local councillor Heath Sander and MBDA president Amy Wicks presented trophies to Murgon residents who had been nominated in the South Burnett Regional Council Awards:

  • Citizen Of The Year – Ross Wessling
  • Young Citizen Of The Year – Tristan Waldock
  • Junior Cultural Award – Taring Wangan Dance Group
  • Cultural Award – Rockin Our Abilities
  • Junior Sportsperson Of The Year – Chloe Dennis, Madison Holding, Ziggy Pidgeon, Jack Webber and Byron Kratzmann
  • Senior Sportsperson / Administrator / Coach / Official – Glen Trevor, Leanne Dowdle, Jason Webber and Sam Davis
  • Community Organisation / Event – BP Dam Fish Management Committee
  • Volunteer Of The Year – Roley Dennell, Ashley Rewald, Helene Wessling, Leanne Dowdle and Ross Wessling
  • Local Achiever – Tristan Waldock

The day began with a flag-raising ceremony before residents moved inside the barn for the awards presentation and to enjoy an Aussie-flavoured morning tea with lamingtons and Anzac biscuits.

Guest speaker was Murgon businesswoman Felicity Dascombe, from Purser’s Travel.
