Police are investigating after two vehicles – believed to be stolen – were torched in Kingaroy during the early hours of New Year’s Day.

A police spokesperson said emergency services responded to fires in Haly Street about 2:30am.

“At this stage, they are being treated as suspicious,” the spokesperson said.

“Investigations are ongoing. There is no further information at this time.

“Police are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident, including anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, to please come forward.”

Social media posts have linked the incidents to an alleged carjacking earlier in the evening in Murgon and a robbery and thefts by a group of youths at the United Fuel service station in Kingaroy.

Member for Nanango, Attorney-General Deb Frecklington, has urged residents to report criminal activity to police.

“Social media is not the appropriate platform for reporting crime,” she said.

A Kingaroy police spokesperson urged anyone with information to call PoliceLink on 131-444.

He said additional resources had been brought in to investigate the latest incidents.
