The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group met on Tuesday at 9:00am following its activation on Monday night.

A Council spokesperson said the LDMG would remain at Stand Up activation level and continue to monitor and direct clean-up activities from the recent heavy rain.

Monday’s rain has been categorised as crossing the “intense rainfall threshold” and as a greater than 1-in-100-year storm event.

Further rain could occur over the next three days.

Emergency services and Council crews worked through the evening and were out again early on Tuesday morning undertaking restoration activities.

Police have advised residents not to drive or walk through floodwater and to avoid unnecessary travel.

If you must travel, drive to the prevailing road conditions and obey warning signs but residents should not expect to see warnings at every crossing given the widespread impact of the rainfall.

The LDMG will continue to maintain the Disaster Dashboard as information is provided and will communicate further updates on major travel routes if conditions change.

However, flash flooding and road damage can occur quickly and without warning. Road closures or road damage due to flash flooding are not always recorded on the Disaster Dashboard.

Council has reminded residents:

  • In a life threatening emergency, call Triple Zero (000)
  • For sandbagging / leaking roofs / roof damage, contact the SES on 132-500, or if the phone line is busy, dowload the SES app.
  • For up-to-date information about all things related to disaster management (ie. emergency news, road closures, weather warnings) visit Council’s Disaster Dashboard

Council has urged the public to report flooded and damaged roads by calling (07) 4189-9100.
