The Sunshine Coast Lightning netball club recently hosted a group of young girls from Cherbourg State School at the club’s home ground, UniSC Arena at Sippy Downs.

The visit was made possible through Lightning’s partnership with the Confident Girls Foundation which aims to deliver programs and experiences to empower young women and girls.

The young students were part of the school’s Juwunus program for girls.

Twelve girls from the Juwunus program were immersed into the Lightning environment.

Players shared stories and formed connections with the students over morning tea, followed by a training session led by Steph Fretwell, Leesa Mi Mi and Mahalia Cassidy.

The group also shared lunch together before First Nations artist Zartisha Davis worked with the students in a cultural art workshop.

Each student took home a piece of individual artwork inspired by Zartisha’s incredible work.
