There are three levels in the new obstacle course … green (easy), yellow (intermediate) and red / orange (extreme)

A little bit of rain couldn’t stop the opening of Kingaroy’s new $850,000 adventure playground and basketball courts in Memorial Park on Saturday.

The South Burnett Regional Council received a $250,000 grant through the State Government’s Minor Infrastructure Program to make the project a reality, and added the balance from Council funds.

Council worked with landscape architects Greenedge Design to plan the facility and employed many local tradespeople during the construction.

Memorial Park now boasts a new concrete basketball court, retaining walls and pathways, a three-level obstacle course and the only wheelchair-friendly water bubbler in the South Burnett.

Floodlights have also been installed, which means the facility can be used until 9:30pm every night.

Landscaping and design were carried out by Council employees who planted shrubs, native trees – some of which had to be lifted in by crane – and groundcovers.

A Port Jackson fig has also been planted near the bridge.

A local farmer donated tree stumps and boulders to add natural features to the area.
