Planning has already begun for next year’s “Beef It Up – Master It All” night after the success of the recent evening at Wattle Grove.
The get-together attracted more than 100 people (plus kids) to “The Washpool”, a property owned by Keith and Linda Crawford.
This is the second year the event has been held, organised by former South Burnett councillor Scott Henschen, Lachlan Hancock and Jess Carstens with help from a bunch of volunteers.
The aim is to focus foster positive mental health in the rural community.
There were eight speakers on the night, plus live music by Tucker and Chop (Darren Schmidt and Glenn Lumsden) and catering by Judy Crawford.
Mary O’Brien, from Are You Bogged Mate?, kicked the evening off, talking about breaking the stigma of reaching out for help.
Gavin Carr, from Carrdoon Working Dogs at Mundubbera, spoke about his life as a child and how he had changed directions during his rural career.
Other speakers included Jason Kinsella, from Moffatdale Ridge Wines; stonefruit grower Tony Dugdell and Chloe Plowman, from Ruby Ridge Angus.
Don and Teresa Allen and their son Joe, from Mitchell, spoke about their move from being from pork producers in the South Burnett to cattle producers at Mitchell.
Scott said it had been a great night but he emphasised it was not just about “beef” … it was for everyone in the rural sector who wanted to “beef up” their lives.
“It’s about where you started, where you are at and where you might be at in the future,” he said.
“Everyone has a story to tell.”
He said there had been terrific support from the local business community, especially Kewpie Stockfeeds and Sunpork, and The Washpool was a fantastic venue.
