The South Burnett Bush Pigs have continued their unbeaten run in the Goodchild Shield senior cricket competition, ensuring their next stop is the Grand Final.

The home team defied the weather to defeat Fraser Coast by 30 runs at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy last Sunday.

South Burnett won the toss and elected to bat, but were all out for 123 in the 31st over.

The Fraser Coast bowlers tested the Bush Pigs but Nathan Roderick (54), Jared Sippel (18) and Riley Sippel (15 not out) helped the South Burnett set a respectable target.

In reply, the South Burnett bowlers returned the favour, getting Fraser Coast all out for 93 in the 38th over.

Jared Sippel (3/9 off seven overs), Nicholas Sanewski (3/21 off seven) and Kieran Askin (2/12 off 8.2) did the damage.

The Grand Final of this prestigious Wide Bay four-team competition will be played on January 19.

Gympie A Grade Cricket 

The two South Burnett teams in the Gympie A Grade competition faced off against each other in Round 9 at Lyle Vidler Oval on Saturday.

Wooroolin Warriors won the toss and elected to bowl against Murgon Crusaders.

At the end of their 40 overs, Murgon were 8/233.

Top-scorer Tom Patton was unbeaten with 84 runs, including three sixes and 12 fours off just 48 balls.

Michael Davies was the best of the Warriors’ bowlers with 3/32 off eight overs.

In reply, Wooroolin were all out for 106 in the 29th over.

Lawson Black and Matthew Springate equalled top-scored with 24 runs apiece.

Byron Kratzmann was the pick of the Murgon bowlers, taking 3/6 off four overs, including two maidens.

Jack Webber took 2/10 off two, and Tom Patton 2/19 off eight.

Murgon Crusaders won by 127 runs.

The South Burnett Senior competition entered into T20 mode last weekend with Rounds 1 and 2 being played on Saturday morning and afternoon:

  • Wondai Wolves (122 all out) def. Wooroolin Warriors (92 all out) by 30 runs at Kingaroy State School
  • Nanango Scorpions (5/146) def. Kingaroy Services (4/146) by six wickets at Alan Downie Sports Fields, Nanango

ROUND 2

  • Tingoora Vikings (5/139) def. Wooroolin Warriors (6/137) by two runs at Kingaroy State School
  • Kingaroy Services (3/60) def. Wondai Wolves (58 all out) by seven wickets at Taabinga State School
  • Tingoora Huntsmen forfeited to Nanango Scorpions

Junior Rep Cricket 

Round 3 games Wide Bay Junior Intercity Challenge were scheduled to be played at Murgon Showgrounds.

In Under 12s, Bundaberg (115 all out) def. South Burnett (34 all out) by 81 runs.

Mitchell Stretton bowled well for the South Burnett, taking 4/16 off 6.3 overs, including one maiden.

The U14s game between Bundaberg and South Burnett was drawn due to the rain.
