Members of the South Burnett Chorale are practising busily for their upcoming Christmas concerts in Nanango and Kingaroy.
The annual concerts are always a highlight of the South Burnett’s Christmas calendar!
This year they will be performed from 3:00pm on:
- November 24 – at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, 37 Gipps Street, Nanango.
- November 30 – at the Church of Christ, 254 Haly Street, Kingaroy.
Tickets for either event are $15 (children under 12 are free) which includes afternoon tea.
Tickets can be booked online (see links below) or bought at the door.
Musical director Julee-anne Bell said Christmas favourites would be performed, but with a little twist to keep them fresh and interesting.
However, as well as familiar carols, audiences will also hear some lesser-known English and medieval carols (plus there’ll be an opportunity for some community singing).
Julee-anne said these concerts would be particularly special for her as they would be her last as musical director with the chorale.
“I’m heading out on tour with my own show and the schedule looks hectic to say the least. It wouldn’t be fair to give the Chorale anything less than my best,” she said.
The South Burnett Chorale started in 1996 and currently has about 30 members.
“We are a non-auditioned group which means that absolutely anyone can join,” Julee-anne said.
“They need to be prepared to learn and have an awful lot of fun and plenty of laughs. We are open to anyone from high school age upwards.”
She said the Christmas concerts provided much-needed funding to keep the not-for-profit group sustainable.
As well as supporting the Chorale, half the ticket sales are also donated to local charities.
This year, funds will be split between a building project at Our Lady Help of Christians and Eva’s Place in Kingaroy.
“We couldn’t do this concert without Georgina Graham, our president, and the rest of our executive,” Julee-anne said.
“We are blessed to have found a most wonderful accompanist in Gayle Pryce-Davies, although these will also be Gayle’s last concerts as she and her husband have made the difficult decision to move away to be closer to their children and grandchildren.”
