The body of a former Nanango resident who went missing at the weekend while on a fishing trip was located on Tuesday morning.

Darryn Kimlin, 42, was reported missing by his family after he failed to return from a short solo trip on Saturday.

He had been expected to return about noon on Sunday.

Police were called to the Beaver Rock boat ramp on the Mary River about 6:15am on Tuesday after reports a body had been found in the water.

Polair, Marine Rescue Queensland and State Emergency Services had been searching for the missing man.

Mr Kimlin, who resided in Maryborough, was well-known in the Nanango area.

He was a former student at Nanango State High School and had taken part in Dead Cow Gully running events.
