The trailer gouged a hole in the roadway as it came to rest on its side in Harris Road

No one was injured when a low-loader carrying an excavator tipped on its side in Harris Road, Kingaroy, on Monday morning.

A tip truck was pulling the trailer carrying an excavator when the load apparently shifted as the vehicle was negotiating a dogleg section of the road.

The hitch between the units failed, tipping the trailer on to its side, close to an embankment and gouging deep holes in the bitumen roadway.

A local resident who heard the crash said he saw a large cloud of dust rise from the road.

He rushed out and began slowing down traffic.

An Ergon Energy crew was called as the incident occurred near an electricity pole and overhead powerlines.

The roadway was blocked – and power disconnected – while two crane crews worked to right the trailer and remove the excavator.

Power was restored about 4:30pm.

South Burnett Regional Council workers then began repairing the damage to the roadway.
