Mobile phone customers in the South Burnett should have a greater choice of providers next year when Vodafone expands its footprint in the region.
At the moment, Vodaphone has only a small amount of coverage around Kingaroy, but a new sharing agreement with Optus is expected to triple this.
A Vodaphone spokesperson said the expansion would take its South Burnett coverage from five mobile sites to 16.
“This will provide greater coverage, service, speed and quality for Vodafone mobile customers in the area,” the spokesperson said.
“The new coverage will be made possible through an innovative regional network sharing deal between Vodafone and Optus in regional Australia that will see the two telcos share network sites and mobile spectrum.
“This arrangement will more than double the size of Vodafone’s mobile network, increasing network coverage to more than one million square kilometres for its customers.
“In regional Australia, Vodafone’s number of 4G mobile sites will increase by more than three times to 2444, increasing its 4G network population coverage from 95.4 per cent to 98.4 per cent.”
