Two people were killed – and a third suffered critical injuries – in a collision on the D’Aguilar Highway at Wamuran on Sunday afternoon.

The police Forensic Crash Unit has been called in to investigate the head-on crash which occurred about 3:00pm.

Police issued an alert the highway was blocked and urged motorists to use an alternative route.

A police spokesperson said initial investigations indicated a Mitsubishi Pajero travelling west and a Ford Everest travelling east collided.

The driver of the Ford, a 57-year-old woman, was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The passengers in the vehicle, a 58-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman, died at the scene.

The driver of the Pajero, a 26-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for treatment.

The spokesperson said he was assisting police with their inquiries.

Police are appealing to witnesses, or anyone with relevant dashcam vision, to contact them immediately.

Investigations are continuing.

UPDATE November 12: A 26-year-old Stanmore man has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driving under the influence and unlicensed driving. He will appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court on November 13.
