The location of the proposed X-Elio battery energy storage system at Alice Creek (Map: X-Elio)

October 3, 2024

International renewable energy company X-Elio will be holding an information session in Kumbia on Friday afternoon (October 4) so local residents can find out more about a proposed development at Alice Creek.

X-Elio proposes to build a 300MW battery energy storage system (BESS)  on Ellesmere Road.

The land was chosen due to its closeness to the Halys substation.

The BESS would use lithium-ion batteries housed in 472 shipping-container sized steel cabinets.

Each cabinet would be white, or light coloured, to assist with heat management.

The project, which is currently in its planning and approval stages,  is anticipated to create 150-200 jobs during construction.

The information session will run from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Friday at Kumbia Memorial Hall.

Other BESS projects in the local region include the 300MW BESS at Tarong (under construction), a proposed 500MW facility by Akaysha Energy at Ellesmere, and a 200MW project by Equis Australia at Lower Wonga.
