The South Burnett’s annual “Pinking Up” campaign to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation’s breast cancer nurses was officially launched in Kingaroy on Tuesday afternoon.

The campaign runs throughout the month of October, with pink-themed events and displays to raise awareness and funds.

The South Burnett’s McGrath Foundation nurse Sue Cox was on hand to receive a $5000 cheque from local residents Barry and Leanne Krosch to kickstart the campaign.

Sue is the only breast care nurse in our region and currently has about 100 clients whom she is supporting.

“In any week I have about six on chemotherapy, four on radiotherapy and a couple coming back from surgery,” she said.

But the support doesn’t stop when the treatment stops, with Sue touching base regularly to help people adjust to their new way of living.

Mayor Kathy Duff, for whom pink is permanent, officially cut a pink tape to launch this year’s campaign.

One of the first events will be the “Wondai Goes Pink” breast cancer morning tea to be held from 10:30am to 12:30pm on Saturday, October 12, at the Wondai Memorial Hall.

Guest speakers will include Sue Cox, physiotherapist Julie Ultmann, community nurse Marcia Hunt and social worker Tess Elliott.

Cost is $20 and tickets can be booked online or by phoning Tess on 0417-141-212.

Deputy Mayor Danita Potter also urged everyone to check out the Pinking Up South Burnett Facebook page to find details on how donate.

By donating to the South Burnett Pinking Up campaign, funds raised will stay in the local area.

“Please post your photos, advertise your events and share your stories to encourage others to come on board and make a positive difference for this vital service for our region,” Cr Potter said.

Barry and Leanne Krosch joined with Tess Elliott, Sue Cox and a team of South Burnett councillors to launch the 2024 fundraising campaign on Tuesday
