The inaugural Maidenwell Music Mix was true to its name at the weekend, offering a “mix” of country, pop and soft rock music to keep the crowd entertained.
Maidenwell Music Mix committee president Gavin Jones said other festivals concentrated on just one type of music, so the organisers of this latest event had tried to offer something a bit different.
And it appears to have worked …
“It was fantastic, absolutely brilliant,” Gavin said on Monday.
“It wasn’t a large crowd but it was certainly good enough to make a few dollars.”
The festival kicked off on Friday with local band RYZA christening the new, permanent stage which has been erected behind the Maidenwell Hotel.
“Rob and Clare (Fitz-Herbert) were the perfect people to launch the whole show,” Gavin said.
Other local artists included Amber Goldsmith, Paul Ricketts, Dean Perrett, Natalie Fenton and Mr Q (who also handled the sound).
The star attraction, though, was multiple Golden Guitar-winning fiddle player (and comedian) Pixie Jenkins who not only wowed the crowd with his violin but also kept them amused with non-stop chatter between acts.
Profits from the weekend will support South Burnett projects, including mental health initiatives.
The committee was particularly grateful for a donation of $10,000 from Kingaroy residents Barry and Leanne Krosch towards the event.
Next year’s dates have already been organised – September 19-21 – and bookings made.
Gavin said he was also hoping to put the new stage to good use in the meantime – “there’s nothing like it in the South Burnett” – to host regular music afternoons when he resumes management of the Maidenwell Hotel later next month.
