South Burnett Regional Council approved two applications for Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grants at its general meeting on Wednesday.
The Bunya Mountains Community Association will receiver $3000 to assist with a project, “Bunya Mountains Art of the Forest Experience”.
An exhibition will feature 15 large paintings by Toowoomba-based environmental artist Frida Forsberg of Bunya Mountains scenery, flora and fauna.
The display will be accompanied by a workshop for local, regional and emerging artists to acquire new skills.
As well, NSW-based Christina Howard (Dhamali-Gu Minyaarr) will share her knowledge and skills in Indigenous weaving and Bindal/Bigambul artist Niketa Law, from Cherbourg, will discuss the importance of art to Indigenous people and culture.
The event will be livestreamed.
South Burnett-based grant writer Melanie Doheny will receive $3000 to deliver six free grant-writing and project-panning workshops and three “open office” days for artists, artworkers and arts organisations in Blackbutt, Nanango and Kingaroy between November this year and next February.
Applications for RADF Round 1 grants closed on August 31.
Two applications were received and were assessed by the RADF Committee on September 12.
South Burnett Regional Council has allocated a total of $70,000 for RADF projects in 2024-25, including a $42,000 grant from Arts Queensland.
