Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington officially opened the new secondary precinct at St John’s Lutheran School on Friday morning.

The building consists of five classrooms – catering for students in Years 10, 11 and 12 – as well as two dedicated science labs, several breakout areas and a staff room.

Principal Karyn Bjelke-Petersen said construction work began in May last year, with students moving into the facility just 10 weeks ago.

Mrs Bjelke-Petersen said the school funded the project through fundraising and savings as well as loans.

“We have been blessed in the past to have government funding but we funded this by ourselves,” she said.

The Reverend Luke Spilsbury, second Assistant Bishop (Lutheran Church of Australia Queensland District) and School Council chair Warren Layt were special guests at the opening ceremony.

South Burnett councillors and past School Council members were also among the invited guests, who enjoyed music provided by the school’s orchestra.

There are eight students who will be graduating in St John’s first Year 12 class.
