South Burnett Regional Council has voted to extend its trial opening of the McCauley Weir, near Nanango, to the public for another six months.

A six-month trial to allow users to access the gated road to the weir began in February this year.

Users had to pay a $100 deposit for a key and sign a usage agreement.

At their August meeting, councillors voted unanimously to continue the trial for another six months.

They also voted to ask council staff to investigate:

  • The cost to freehold the operational reserve and repurpose it to public use,
  • The purchase of temporary traffic lights, and
  • The cost for construction of public facilities and site clean-up.

The findings would be presented back to Council for consideration in the 2025-26 Budget.
