Local residents have been invited to attend information sessions next month about the State Government’s upcoming Burnett River and Tributaries Catchment Flood Study.

The study will be carried out over the next two years by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, in conjunction with the South Burnett, North Burnett, Cherbourg, Gympie and Bundaberg councils.

Its purpose is to provide a better understanding of flood behaviour throughout the Burnett River catchment which will be used to improve flood management as well as guide infrastructure planning.

The aim is to have the study finalised and published by late 2025.

Phase 1 consists of collecting data from the community.

Residents have been invited to share their knowledge about floods, including photos, videos, observations about flood behaviour and newspaper clippings.

These can be shared online before October 25, 2024.

The South Burnett information session will be held from 9:30am to 4:30pm on Thursday, October 10, at Murgon Town Hall.

Gympie Regional Council residents have been invited to attend an information session on Friday, October 11, from 9:00am to noon at Goomeri Library.
