The Burnett Inland Economic Development Organisation (BIEDO) has received a grant from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal’s “In A Good Place Program”.
The $18,500 grant is to promote mental health and and local services directly to farmers at cattle sales.
BIEDO has dubbed the project, “The Saleyard and Beyond: Fostering Wellbeing in Rural Farming Communities”.
The “In a Good Place” program has distributed a total of $286,992 to 18 not-for-profit organisations across the country for community-driven projects to help people experiencing – or at risk of – mental health challenges.
The South Burnett Suicide Prevention Working Group has also run an outreach at local cattle sales in the wake of a report that highlighted the social value of saleyards.
