Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar’s dream of winning a medal at the Paris Olympics is over after a tough game against a Swiss duo.
The Aussies, who were silver medallists at the Tokyo Olympics, faced Swiss players Tanja Hueberli and Nina Brunner in the bronze medal match on Saturday morning, but were defeated 2-0 (21-17, 21-15).
Kingaroy’s Taliqua Clancy recorded some blistering serves – the fastest in the match at 64km/h – but it wasn’t enough to beat the Swiss who had gone through all the earlier rounds undefeated.
In the gold medal game, the Brazilian duo of Ana Patricia Silva Ramos and Eduarda “Duda” Santos – who defeated the Australians in the semi-final – downed Canadians Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson 2-1.
