Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar’s dream of getting gold at the Paris Olympics is over, but the Aussie pair are still in the running for a bronze medal at the games.
They came up against the Brazilian duo of Ana Patricia Silva Ramos and Eduarda “Duda” Santos Lisboa in the beach volleyball semi-final played on Friday morning in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.
The silver medallists at the Tokyo Games just edged out the Brazilians in a tightly contested first set, 22-20, however Brazil fought back in the second, with a 21-15 win.
After forcing the contest to a tiebreaker third set, Brazil then downed the Aussies 15-12.
Brazil will now play Canadians Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson for the gold medal, while Taliqua and Mariafe will take on Swiss players Tanja Hueberli and Nina Brunner for the bronze.
Both games will be played on Saturday morning.
