Smithfield Cattle Co’s Sapphire Feedlot is one of six finalists in the prestigious Australian Feedlot of the Year competition.
The Proston-based company added Sapphire Feedlot, 32km east of Goondiwindi on the banks of the Dumaresq River, to its portfolio in 2016.
Sapphire – which is currently running 20,000 head – is a finalist in the “Above 15,000 head” category.
It will be competing against Teys Australia’s Condamine Feedlot in the Western Downs.
Other finalists in the national competition are:
- 3000 to 8000 head – Macquarie Wagyu (Qld) and Gundamain Pastoral Co (NSW)
- 8000 to 15,000 head – Barmount (Qld) and Gunnee Feedlot Pty Ltd (NSW)
The winners will be announced at the Australian Lot Feeders Association’s BeefEx 2024 conference in Brisbane in October.
