A big week of junior rugby league wrapped up at Murgon Sportsground on Friday, with the Under12s South Burnett Eagles coming out undefeated!
The Zone 5 Under 43kg carnival featured eight teams: South Burnett Eagles, Balonne Barwon Bandits, Cunnamulla, Central Downs, Wynnum-Manly Seagulls, Macintyre, Western Downs Wild Dogs, and the Warwick & Southern Downs Colts.
Hosting the round-robin competition was a massive effort for the Murgon Mustangs club, but it was also a big deal for the local community with dollars flowing into the local economy from all the visitors in town for the multi-day event.
The Murgon Business and Development Association organised for local businesses to feature displays in their shop windows for the visiting teams to welcome them to town.
The South Burnett Eagles could not have had a better carnival, having only three tries scored against them all week!
And to top it off, they also took out the Athletics Shield on Sunday afternoon – for the first time in the competition’s history.

The draw has been released for next weekend’s massive 47th Battalion weekend at T.J. O’Neill Oval in Kingaroy (July 13-14).
Hosting this carnival is a big honour for the South Burnett Rugby League, with senior teams – some of the best men’s and women’s players in Queensland – converging on the South Burnett for two big days of rugby league across two fields.
The opening ceremony will be held at 9:30am on the Saturday (July 13).
A canteen and bar will be running all weekend.
Entry is just $5 for adults, so get on down to the Red Ants on July 13-15 to cheer on the Burnett Brahmans men and Wide Bay Bulls women!
