A team of young Kingaroy boxers is celebrating after a very successful tournament at Ipswich last Saturday.

Four boxers – Sam Moseling, Noah Stokes, Alex Crumpton and Xavier Crosby – plus trainer Phill Thomson, Gary Tessmann and a support crew travelled to Ipswich last Friday.

They camped overnight at Ipswich Showgrounds to ensure the competitors would be fresh for their bouts on Saturday.

The Ipswich Regional Championship was hosted by the Rebels Boxing Club.

The youngest member of the team, Noah Stokes, 12, lost his bout but Phill said he should hold his head up high because his opponent was a lot older, in fact just three weeks off turning 16.

“Noah put in an amazing effort,” Phill said.

The older boxers all won their bouts by TKO.

The club is now focussing on preparing a team for future competitions, including the 2024 Golden Gloves in Brisbane this August.

Phill said the Kingaroy Boxing Club has about 80 members, ranging in age from five to adult.

Members train on Monday and Wednesday nights at the clubhouse on the corner of Pound and Markwell streets.

The club would like to say a special thank you to sponsors Love2Live Disability Services, Kay Apparel Aprons & Home Butchers Supplies, and The Little Butcher who made the trip to Ipswich possible.
