Traffic in these streets will limited to 40km/h  (Map: SBRC)

The speed limit within the Kingaroy central business district has been cut to 40km/h.

A statement from the South Burnett Regional Council on Thursday advised the new limit would affect traffic within the Markwell, Kingaroy, Glendon, Alford and Haly street blocks.

“Council would like to thank the Department of Transport and Main Roads for their collaborative approach to road safety in our community,” Mayor Kathy Duff said.

“Kingaroy’s town centre is a busy place for motorists, pedestrians and businesses. The new speed limit for the CBD will improve safety for all people going about their everyday activities.”

southburnett.com.au understands the new limits will be enforced as soon as signage is installed this month.

The lower speed limit already in place in the Glendon Street shared zone in front of the Council Chambers will not change.
