Ten new catwalks have been built at the Coolabunia Saleyards, the latest upgrades at the facility owned by the South Burnett Regional Council.

The new catwalks, replacing some which date to 1982, were funded by Council’s capital works program.

A Council spokesperson said the work was undertaken by local businesses and would enhance the safety of the yards for cattle, workers and the public.

The latest upgrades follow the construction of new saleyards pens at the facility last year,

“Council is committed to the continual upgrade of this wonderful facility,” Mayor Kathy Duff said.

Councillors inspected the upgrades at the recent Combined Agents Weaner Sale and Show, held at the yards on June 6.

The Grand Champion Pen of Weaners was awarded to Dean and Karen Wyatt with a pen of Charolais steers.

The Reserve Champion title went to Geoff and Vivian Black with a pen of Simmental heifers.

The show also featured the drawing of the major vendors’ prize, a Kubota mower from Ken Mills Machinery in Kingaroy.

It was won by a first-time vendor at the Coolabunia Saleyards, Peter Carseldine.
