Goat meat production in Australia is soaring, according to a snapshot released this week by Meat & Livestock Australia.
Last year a record 36,903 tonnes were produced, and the second highest total amount exported.
However, despite the high export volumes, lower prices meant the export value fell by 10 per cent compared with the record-high year of 2022.
Australia is the world’s largest goat meat exporter.
The United States remains the largest market for Australian goat meat, with volumes more than double those of the second-largest market, mainland China.
South Korea is in third spot, recording rapid growth for the fourth year.
MLA analyst Emiliano Diaz said that while around 95 per cent of Australian goat meat was exported, the domestic market also represented a significant market and opportunity.
