The National Fire Ant Eradication Program has reported the detection of the imported pest at Meringandan and Highfields.
A map on the NFAEP website shows sites east of Meringandan-Shirley Road and between Meringandan Road and Highfields Road.
The sites were reportedly detected on May 14.
“Suspect ant reports” are submitted to the NFAEP by members of the public but are only added to the map after the nests have been verified by officers.
The NFEAP says that once a fire ant nest is confirmed, a treatment strategy is implemented depending on factors such as public safety, time of year and location.
“We prioritise the treatment of sites where there may be an increased risk to human health, including parks, schools, and sports grounds,” according to the NFAEP website.
