Macauley Weir
FLASHBACK: The gate at the top of McCauley Weir Road about the time the campaign to reopen the weir began

May 8, 2024

UPDATE 3:25pm: southburnett.com.au has been informed by Council this event has been cancelled.

South Burnett Regional Council has invited interested residents to have their say about the future use of McCauley Weir at Nanango.

The weir has been open for public use since February under a trial where users have had to pay a deposit to Council for a loan key to unlock the gate at the top of the access road.

The trial followed a long campaign by some local residents, dating back to 2012, to have the weir reopened for recreational use.

Other residents vehemently opposed the reopening of the access road, even on a limited basis.

A Council spokesperson said the public was invited to attend a public consultation session to be held this Thursday (May 9).

Council staff will meet attendees near the gate – located on McCauley Weir Road off Old Esk North Road – at 5:00pm.

“The community is encouraged to attend and provide Council with feedback regarding the future use of McCauley Weir,” the spokesperson said.

One Response to "Feedback Sought On Weir Trial"

  1. Do your homework. This is a more serious issue to deal with than to satisfy big egos. The council can’t successfully funnel many visitors into a tiny area of council-owned land and not do their homework.
