Community Foundations Australia CEO Ian Bird – the chair of the Global Fund for Community Foundations – will be visiting the South Burnett next week.
Mr Bird will meet representatives from the Red Earth Community Foundation on April 2, but has also agreed to hold a public session to discuss philanthropy and community foundations.
“The public session presents an opportunity to hear Ian’s story, listen to his experience with community foundations in Canada and catch his vision for community foundations in Australia,” Red Earth general manager Melinda Jones said.
“We are often asked what is a community foundation?
“Community foundations are charitable organisations established and managed by local people to meet the needs of their communities and are often known for driving investment and building capacity in regional communities.
“As a Community Foundation, Red Earth welcomes the chance to glean insight from Ian as we continue to invest in people as a vehicle for change in the Burnett Inland.”
Red Earth chair Georgie Somerset said it was a great opportunity for people to learn more about community foundations in general, and to learn more about Red Earth and how its structure could be used by organisations, businesses and individuals to create change, raise funds and make a difference.
The public session will be held at the Kingaroy RSL Club from 3:00pm to 5:00pm on Tuesday, April 1, and will include afternoon tea.
