South Burnett and Cherbourg councils have received funding to continue the employment of an illegal dumping compliance officer.

The funding is part of $2.7 million announced at the weekend to support 30 local councils in the fight against illegal dumping.

More than $11.1 million in grants have been provided to local councils across Queensland since 2020 in the Local Government Illegal Dumping Partnerships Program.

The grants allow councils to employ dedicated illegal dumping compliance officers to identify those illegally dumping in their communities and proactively look at ways to prevent illegal dumping from happening.

The State Government has also set aside  $7 million to employ regional waste management plan co-ordinators to improve environmental and economic outcomes for regions.

A co-ordinator will be appointed to cover the Wide Bay-Burnett region.
