South Burnett farmers interested in growing sesame have been invited to attend a field walk at the Kingaroy Research Facility next month for a close-up look at the performance of new black and white sesame varieties.

The field day will feature a presentation from AgriVentis Technologies’ technical operations manager Andrew McDonald about planting methods and crop agronomy for maximising yield.

CQ University researcher and AgriFutures Australia sesame research program lead Dr Tieneke Trotter will provide an overview of the emerging sesame industry and initiatives to support its expansion.

DAF researchers will also be on hand to provide information on the specific lines planted and their potential to fit within existing farming systems.

The field day will be held from 2:00pm on March 5 at the DAF research facility at 214 Kingaroy-Cooyar Road (opposite Kingaroy Airport).

The afternoon is free, and a barbecue and drinks will follow.
