Social media erupted on Saturday night with reports that children were pelting vehicles with rocks near the Sandy Creek Bridge in Nanango.
One rock smashed the window of a local taxi cab, while another reportedly struck a woman in the head, causing a small lump.
One woman said she rang the police after her vehicle was hit as she was coming home from work:
I rang last night when I got hit and they said they will send a car around, but that’s no good, they just bolt
Another woman said her vehicle had been “chipped” when the children threw a rock at it.
Some commenters called for vigilante action, while others had more sensible – and legal solutions – in mind.
Wow this has happened a lot. Need a cheap outdoor solar camera hidden down there. Catch the little stinkers.
Maybe we should have a town meeting incuding (sic) the police and voice and raise our concerns and try and reach a proper solution to stop these kids and the breakins, that have been happening. The proper channels need to be followed or the situation will escalate and that would spell disaster.
Time to find them. Parents can pay the repair costs.
A Nanango police spokesperson said investigations into the rock-throwing incidents were continuing.
This is not the first time that incidents like this have occurred near the bridge, and police suspect the same group of young people could be responsible.
Residents have been urged to report incidents to police when they happen rather than simply post about it later on social media.
