The first lot of winners in the quirky South Burnett Christmas Lights competitions for 2023 were named during a break in Wednesday’s South Burnett Regional Council meeting.

The competitions, organised by Council CEO Mark Pitt and his wife Nicola, cover three categories: Santa’s Workshop (for businesses), Santa Claus Lane (for co-operative efforts by residents) and Christmas Cottage (individual effort).

Mark said it was amazing to think the Santa Claus Lane competition had been running now for five years.

This is now the second year for Santa’s Workshop.

The winners are:

  • Division 1: Sassy Mama (Nanango)
  • Division 2: Blackbutt Art Gallery
  • Division 3/4:  Sportfirst (Kingaroy) and Kingaroy RSL Club
  • Division 5: NB Department Store (Proston)
  • Division 6: Tingoora Hotel

Nicola said Santa’s Workshop was all about children, and giving them something to look forward to seeing at Christmas time.

Mark Maddren, from sponsor Ken Mills Toyota, presented the Santa’s Workshop trophies.

The winner of Santa Claus Lane will be announced on Friday morning, while the winner of Christmas Cottage will be announced next Wednesday.
