The first candidate to put up their hand to run for Mayor of the South Burnett Regional Council in 2024 has decided to withdraw from the contest.
Kingaroy resident Rhonda Trivett, founder of South Burnett Peace of Mind, told southburnett.com.au on Sunday she had decided she could achieve more for the community outside Council than as Mayor.
She said she would continue fighting for change in the community, because change was desperately needed.
“I believe I can do more than I would be able to as Mayor,” Rhonda said.
She has launched a new website where she plans to continue pushing for local change, including the development of a wellness centre in Kingaroy.
Rhonda said change “needs to happen”.
“I’ve got the guts to do it,” she said.
“I can say whatever I want, politicians can’t say whatever they want.
“Council can’t … I can, and that’s what makes a big difference.”
Rhonda said she had not ruled out standing for Mayor in four years time.
