Numbers and prices were both on an upswing at the Murgon Saleyards on Tuesday.

Agents yarded 670 head for the fortnightly liveweight sale, noting that recent widespread rainfall seems to have made a dramatic difference to cattle values.

Stock for the sale were drawn from Gayndah, Boondooma, Mt Perry, Kingaroy, Yarraman, Nanango, Manumbar and the Murgon district.

Sale results:

  • Heavy Bulls sold to $2.56/kg and $2590
  • Cows over 500kg sold to $2.46/kg and $1580, averaging $2.25 – up approximately 10c/kg on the last sale.
  • Cows 400-500kg topped at $2.28/kg for $1170, a 15c/kg improvement
  • Cows under 400kg sold to $2.27/kg
  • Export heifers sold to $2.88/kg for $1280
  • 482kg Angus steers from Nanango sold for $1560 at $3.24/kg
  • 417kg Brahman steers from Hivesville sold for $1335 at $3.20/kg
  • Three pens of Santa steers ex Manumbar sold to $3.84/kg, averaging 338kg and $1300
  • Braford cross steers from Mt Perry sold to $3.28/kg to return $1075
  • 285kg Angus cross steers from Goomeri also sold to $3.28/kg for $935
  • Brangus cross weaner steers from Mondure sold for $4.14/kg & $4.08/kg, returning $916 and $785 respectively
  • Santa cross weaner steers from Murgon sold for $4.06/kg and $934
  • Santa weaner steers from Moffatdale sold for $985 at $4.02/kg
  • Light Charolais cross steers from Wooroonden sold to $4.24/kg for $620
  • 440kg Angus heifers from Goomeri sold for $3.00/kg to return $1320
  • 445kg Angus heifers from Nanango sold for $2.88/kg and $1280
  • 432kg Charbray heifers from Mt Perry also sold for $2.88/kg and $1250
  • 374kg Angus cross heifers sold to $3.00/kg, returning $1220
  • 367kg Santa heifers sold to $2.96/kg and 1080
  • Charolais cross weaner heifers from Gayndah sold for $3.32/kg for $1060
  • Braford weaner heifers from Mt Perry sold for $935.00 at $2.98/kg
  • Two pens of Brangus cross weaner heifers from Mondure sold for $3.46/kg, returning $733 and $646
  • Local Charbray weaner heifers sold to $3.50/kg, returning $690
  • Charolais cross weaner heifers from Nanango sold for $715 at $3.30/kg
  • Brangus Cows and Calves sold to $1500

This was the last Murgon sale for 2023.

Regular fortnightly sales will resume on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
