Former Kingaroy farmer and Federal MP Ian Macfarlane will be retiring as CEO of the Queensland Resources Council (QRC) at the end of the year.

The QRC is the peak body representing Queensland mineral and coal mining companies.

Mr Macfarlane was appointed CEO of the QRC in 2016 and is a non-executive director of Woodside Petroleum.

He was Australia’s longest serving Federal Resources and Energy Minister and the Coalition’s longest-serving Federal Industry and Innovation Minister.

He was formerly chair of the Innovative Manufacturing Co-operative Research Centre, president of the Queensland Graingrowers Association, and president of the Grains Council of Australia.

The QRC announced on Tuesday that Janette Hewson will be taking over the QRC role.

She has more than 25 years’ experience in resources at a senior executive level, including executive vice-president at Santos.

Ms Hewson previously held senior positions at South 32 and Peabody Energy.

She will begin her role at the QRC early next year.
