South Burnett councillor – and 2024 mayoral candidate – Kathy Duff has been named as one of the 19 finalists in the 2023 Shine Awards.
The awards recognise the achievements of women in rural and regional Australia and have been running for seven years.
They are an initiative of News Corp and sponsored by Harvey Norman.
Entrants have been placed six categories: Belief, Courage, Dedication, Grace, Passion and Spirit.
Cr Duff has been recognised in the “Dedication” category for serving her community “through tragedy and triumph” for more than 20 years, and becoming a vocal advocate for mental health support in rural Australia.
The 19 finalists were selected from a field of 124.
The category winners will each receive a $2500 Harvey Norman voucher.
The overall winner will receive an extra $5000 from Harvey Norman.
The winners will be announced in News Corp’s rural newspaper, The Weekly Times, on November 22 and in The Australian newspaper on November 23.
