South Burnett Regional Council is seeking feedback from the community about how the region’s recycling bin service is going.
Recycling has been a contentious issue in the South Burnett since before amalgamation but after multiple discussions in the SBRC, yellow-top bins finally began to be distributed around the region late last year.
Collections began in January despite complaints from some residents on social media who resented being charged for the service.
However, a Council spokesperson said this week that most residents had embraced the service which is diverting waste away from landfills.
This is saving Council the cost of opening new landfills and minimising waste levy payments to the State Government.
“For the continued success of the recycling service we encourage the community to complete the survey and share any tips or comments on how you recycle at home,” the spokesperson said.

Bouquets to the SB Council for introducing the long overdue recycling. We have been requesting it for years and fail to understand why some of our citizens don’t want it. Such a thing is not only good for the environment now but an asset for our descendants in the future.
I agree Brad. The $70 a year fee provides local employment and postpones millions of dollars the Council (ie us) are going to have to come up with to build a new landfill in the future. As icing on the cake, it’s good for the environment. The alternative would be a steep rise in rates to pay the State Government’s Waste Levy which is something I think critics have overlooked.
It’s crap, doesn’t work. You’re not achieving anything unless you teach the kids about values which isn’t happening. More, get rid of woke ideas out of our schools to teaching our the basics on how to make a life and to respect everyone’s life.
