Toowoomba councillors have voted to hire a consultant to explore the introduction of Divisions in their area.
Toowoomba Regional Council is currently “undivided”, meaning all councillors represent all parts of the region.
This is the opposite case to the South Burnett, North Burnett and Gympie councils which have councillors representing individual Divisions.
Toowoomba councillors voted 8-3 this week to hire a consultant to prepare a report.
Public consultation would then have to be undertaken before a submission to make the change could be submitted to the State Government.
There is no guarantee that any such request would be approved.
Ironically, the TRC decision follows a debate in the South Burnett earlier this year to adopt an undivided model.
In March, South Burnett councillors voted to defer any decision to explore abandoning divisions until after the 2024 Local Government election.
