Queensland Fire and Emergency Services issued a number of fire bans for nearby council areas on Saturday.

Fire bans are active until 11:59pm on October 17 (Tuesday) in the Toowoomba, Somerset and Western Downs regional council areas.

When fire bans are in place:

  • ​The lighting of fires in the declared fire ban areas are prohibited, subject to any special conditions or exemptions,
  • All open fires are prohibited,
  • All Permits to Light Fire issued in the designated area are cancelled.

As at 5:30pm on Saturday, there was no Fire Ban in place for the South Burnett Regional Council area although three adjoining regions were under restrictions.

Other Council regions which currently have have fire bans in place are Maranoa, Balonne, Ipswich City, Scenic Rim, Southern Downs, Lockyer Valley, Goondiwindi and Logan City council areas.
