A fire in the engine bay has been blamed for a blaze which destroyed a Ford Kuga on the D’Aguilar Highway near Coolabunia on Tuesday morning.
A police spokesperson said the female driver noticed black smoke pouring from her vehicle and pulled over on to the side of the road.
She managed to escape from the SUV safely but all she could retrieve before the vehicle burst into flames was her handbag.
Two fire crews were called to the incident at 11:10am.
A QFES spokesperson said the vehicle was engulfed in flames when they arrived, and the fire had spread to a small area of nearby grass.
Firefighters had the fires contained by 11:40am and fully extinguished by 12:10pm.
Traffic on the highway was disrupted briefly while emergency crews and a tow truck were on the scene.
