Toowoomba Regional Council is inviting residents to nominate community achievers who will be considered for the 2024 Toowoomba Region Australia Day awards.
Mayor Geoff McDonald has encouraged residents to recognise the region’s volunteers and community workers for their efforts.
“We all know someone who contributes countless hours of assistance and run facilities or events for the benefit of fellow residents,” Mayor McDonald said.
“I encourage residents to nominate our true blue achievers.”
Nominations, which can be made online, must be lodged by October 31 to allow local Australia Day committees time to review and judge the categories.
Award categories include:
- Citizen of the Year (older than 26)
- Citizen of the Year – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
- Young Citizen of the Year (under 26)
- Cultural Award
- Sports award (senior and junior)
- Community group/event of the year
Inquiries about joining a local Australia Day committee or the awards can be directed to Council’s Community Development Officers on 13-18-72.
