The future of rugby league in the South Burnett … the Blackbutt-Timbertowners’ U6s line up to receive their gifts

July 28, 2023

The Wondai Wolves’ Mini Mods junior rugby league carnival has wrapped up for another year, after a “maxi” effort by volunteers, parents and, of course, the more than 1100 young players.

Teams from 22 clubs – including all six South Burnett sides – lined up in games from Under 6s through to Under 12s last Saturday.

The round robin games, played with modified rules, were spread across nine fields at the Wondai Sportsground.

According to figures released by the Wolves, there were 83 teams, consisting of 1107 players plus officials and supporters.

Each player received a gift from the club after their age category games wrapped up.

A total of 61 hours of football were played, ie. 203 matches.

And the canteen volunteers were kept busy, serving up 1248 cups of chips!

The South Burnett Rugby League competition returns to normal this weekend, with junior teams in action at Nanango on Saturday (see below).

The South Burnett Eagles U15s and U16s will playing at Cherbourg on Sunday, as well as two A Grade games and an U14s match.
