Detectives are appealing for public help to locate three people who allegedly bashed an elderly man with a stick early on Friday morning during an unsuccessful bid to steal his car.
Police are investigating several incidents that occurred between Murgon, Wondai and Cherbourg, including the serious assault on the 70-year-old man.
About 4:00am, three males reportedly entered a property where they demanded car keys and a mobile phone from the elderly man, before assaulting him with a wooden stick.
The trio was unsuccessful in stealing the man’s vehicle.
They left the property in a Nissan X-Trail which had been stolen from a home in Murgon earlier that night.
The Nissan was later torched on Wondai Road in Cherbourg.
Police and firefighters were called to the fire at 6:15am on Friday.
The 70-year-old man was transported to Kingaroy Hospital with non-life-threatening head injuries.
