The South Burnett Saints celebrated the memory of their former player Ben Brooks in an emotional day of football at Lyle Vidler Oval last Saturday.

Brooksy’s Round was held in memory of Ben who died of cancer in 2022 aged just 22.

This is the second year the Saints have held the special day.

Ben started playing footy for the Saints in 2013 as a junior before stepping up to the senior team in 2018.

His mother, father, sister and 18-month-old son were on hand on Saturday to present memorial medals to a player from each team in both the junior and senior games who displayed the traits that Ben showed during his short life, ie. “courage, determination and a never-give-up attitude”.

In Under 14s, the winners were Keirra Potter (Saints) and Ben Hawkless (Coolaroo).

The Senior Men’s winners were Ben Pressnell (Saints) and Cameron Goulter (Warwick Redbacks).

Out on the field, the Saints Men played with passion against the Warwick Redbacks, narrowly missing out on the win with both sides kicking nine majors.

The final score was 9.13-67 to 9.9-63.

South Burnett goal kickers included Nathan Trace (3), Kieran Askin (2), Ben Pressnell, Daniel Braxton and Dimas Bakini.

The U14s were overwhelmed by the more experienced Roos, who locked in 33 goals.

Saints Women had a bye.

This weekend, the three Saints’ teams will be in action at Toowoomba against Toowoomba Tigers’ sides at Rockville Park.
